Puzzles for Fun and Learning
Start your children off on a lifetime of learning by introducing them to simple puzzles. Let them start with simple wooden or cardboard puzzles that only have 4 or 5 large pieces. Perhaps choose puzzles with handles to make it easy for them to place and remove the pieces. Then move up gradually to puzzles with more and more pieces that get progressively smaller. The next thing you know, they'll be clamoring for the big 250 or more piece puzzles! They won't realize that they are enhancing their fine motor and eye-hand coordination skills. Talk about the pictures on the puzzles with them: name the items that are pictured in the puzzle, count them, and talk about what they are used for.
Consider a puzzle mat to make clean-up during construction easier.
